Born in 1960, started boxing in 1975 and switched completely to training with weights in 1977. In 1978 he concentrated on powerlifting and strongman events. Trained in the early eighties in Leeuwarden with Piebe Faber (World Champion Powerlifting 110 kg class in 1995) and former professional strongmanTjalling van den Bosch (7th place Strongest Man in the World 1990).
Competing in Highland Games since 2004. First strongman competition in 1979 with old school events like steel bending, stone-pressing, car turnover and deadlifts.
Working as an IT specialist for a Dutch University for applied Science, Godfried trains four times a week during the contest season.
