February 20 2015 Masters World Championships Highland Games 2015 (USA)
The 14th Masters World Championships Highland Games are scheduled be held in 2015 in Chesterfield, Missouri (USA) on Friday 25th & Saturday 26th September. This event will be one of the largest sporting events in Highland Games with over 190 competitors.
Two times World champ Michael Dickens (USA) is defending his title in the 40-44 class. Last year's runner up Tommy de Bruijn (Belgium) will challenge Dickens again. If that's not enough Dutch pro athlete Hans Lolkema has sights set firmly on the world title.
In this class also former Strongest Man in the World competitor Matt Wanat (USA) will make his mark. Gert Stegeman (Netherlands) will make his debut at MWC. Gert took in 2014 second place in international competition in Germany.
In the class 45-49 World Champion 2012 Braidy Miller will be undoubtedly the biggest favorite for the title but this is also true for his brother Brent Miller. There are 27 athletes competing in this class. One of them is Dutch ahtlete
Wybe Zeilstra, who did very well last year in Scotland and is hoping to improve himself to move up in the rankings. The same applies to Franz Ritter, top athlete from Switzerland.
The field in the 50-54 class has this year no defending or returning champion. Dale Gehman and Thom Van Vleck (both USA) probably will compete for top honors. Also McClure, Abbott and Campbell will fight for a medal. Todd Turnbull and Sveinung Tangstad from Norway are the only two non Americans in this group.
The class 55-59 again has two former champions: US athletes Al Stagner (3 times World Champion) and Myles Wetzel (2 times World Champion). Canadian athlete John Jans will also go for the title. Dutch athlete Godfried Kleinmeijer will compete in this class. Last year in Scotland he was coming back after an almost two year layoff and was still hampered by injuries. By now he regained his bodyweight and is not troubled by injuries.
Frank Henry (USA) and Mark Buchanan (USA) are two former world champions in the class 60-64. These outstanding athletes will make competition very difficult for the other competitors.
Age class 65-69 has two returning world champions Wayne Staggs and Bob Jeffery.
70-79 class has world champion 2012 Bill Rogers as favorite but over 80 class has no returning champion.
