September 1 - Celtic Strongest Man 2012
Roy Achterhuis, a local athlete from Wijhe, took home first place. This athlete in his twenties
had made incredible progress. Being the smallest and the lightest from all athletes, he had good muscle quality and explosiveness.
Achterhuis entered the competition at 230 lbs and proved to be good log lifter He also won the shot put (28 lbs stone) with a winning distance around 32 feet. Being a strongman he showed much potential for Highland Games. The biggest athlete, Randolf Pander, came in at 310 lbs. and took some caber tossing lessons at Wout Zijlstra's place. As had seemed likely to be the case, there was no medal hope for Godfried Kleinmeijer. After poor performance with the log lift followed by a disappointing caber toss his points were gone. He did a 12.10 with the caber
toss and that was by far not enough to win the caber event.
The winner of the deadlift, Randolf Pander, did 20 reps with 475 lbs. Also Leon Nijenhuis did well in the deadlift. His log lift with weight lifting technique
was outstanding. Leon even had a good shot put and should try Highland Games competition.
Final results:
1. Roy Achterhuis
2. Randolf Pander
3. René Verbrugh
4. Leon Nijenhuis
5. Gerwin de Haas
6. Godfried Kleinmeijer
