Marco van Asselt - Weight for Height "Dutch Open masters 2012"
July 3 - "Open Dutch Masters Championships" (Netherlands)
invitational competition 2012 begins in twelve days with organizer and competitor Harry Bergsma. Mr. Bergsma organizes contests since 2007 with his wife.
This 2012 Competition features a strong lineup
A who’s who of Dutch and international athletes is descending on this Open Championships looking to solidify their athletic aspirations.
Notably American Michael Dickens, World Champion 2011, will be the favorite
in the masters age class 40 - 49. German top athletes, good for the top three
at the World Championships, will give Dickens a battle for first place.
Also Dutch athlete Wulbert Stam can hope for a medal in the class 40-49.
A large contingent of other hopefuls will also compete for a top 3 finish. In the age class over 50 and overall competition, Hans Dieter Dorow is nearly unbeatable. Hans who was also runnerup at the Masters World Championships in Scotland (2009) keeps improving. Three time World Champion Al Stagner emerged as winner in 2009. July 16 - "Open Dutch Masters Championships Appelscha".
Andy Deuschle proved himself a top contender again after winning the Open Dutch Masters Championships. Michael Dickens who after all didn't make the trip to the Netherlands, he forgot his passport, could not stop the European
athletes form winning this competition. Andy who had an biceps injury, almost did 5.50 meters with the Weight for Height event!
Andy, a former World Champion Shotput, stunned everyone with his backpower. He did a stand throw with the caber and tossed it! Also notable the field record with the hammer from Croatian competitor Marijan Katrusa, a former K1 fighter. Uli Müller won the weight for distance with almost 19 meters.

Wybe Zeilstra was the best Dutchman in the overall class, but unfortunately he lost valuable points with the weight for Distance with three misses.
Harry Bergsma improved his best with 5 centimeters in the Weight for Height to 4.25 meters. He also had a PR with the WFD. New masters Alaric Volkert, after being injured, could throw without pain and laid a good foundation for further competition just as Marco van Asselt did after not competing for several years. Marco impressed everyone with a good performance for the Weight for Height event.
Hans Dieter Dorow won the over 50 class (and 2nd overall) with following in second place Douwe Zijlstra. Douwe, who did not compete for almost 9 years showed why he was in his prime one of the best athletes ever in the Netherlands. Third place was for Godfried Kleinmeijer who could not prepare for competition due to work related stress, nevertheless he throw with the hammer a PR.
This contest was very well organized, congrats to Margreet Bergsma. There were so many spectators, that the field was made smaller to accommodate them.
