February 18 - Watching the competition last year in Appelscha (Open Dutch Masters Highland Games) was fun and exiting. This year it will be even more exiting because a lot of nationalities (11) will compete in a very stiff competition with world class athletes. The favorite this year is American Gene Flynn. This extraordinary athlete, defending World Champion
Highland Games, having gained the title in 2010 and 2012 M45 - 49, is also an
accomplished weightlifter. Fellow American Mike Baab will defefend his 2012 title Masters World Champion class M50 -54.
So they will not compete directly in this years Masters World Championships.
However Gene Flynn will be 50 at the time of the Open Dutch Masters Highland Games. German star Andy Deuschle, the former world champion shot put will battle
American athletes during the open Dutch, like Masters World Champion 2011 Michael Dickens. And if anyone can challenge other top contenders this year, it's fellow
German Hans Dieter Dorow, Runnerup World champion 2009, who's improving every year. The current Dutch Master champion, Wulbert Stam has to fight for a hotspot
in this competition. To complete the top field of this competition we must mention Icelander Petur Guðmundsson, world record holder standing Bramaer stone
(15.39 meters). The world record from 1997 is still standing! He will be able to make it diffcicult for all athletes. Hard to predict a winner in such a field.
